Man Charged After Reportedly Avoiding RIDE Check In Owen Sound

Owen Sound | by Claire McCormack

Owen Sound police say a man who made a U-turn in front of a RIDE faces impaired driving charges.

Owen Sound police arrested a driver who they say tried to avoid a RIDE check.

At about 2:30 this morning, city police were conducting a R.I.D.E. in the 1300 block of 8th Street East.

Police say they saw a vehicle make a U-turn instead of going through the RIDE check.

Officers followed the vehicle as it drove through residential neighbourhoods in the area, and eventually stopped the driver on 11th Avenue East.

The man driving was arrested and according to police, breath tests were conducted which registered more than twice the legal limit.

The 30 year old Owen Sound man is charged with impaired driving. His licence is suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a week.

The driver also faces several charges under the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
