The Grey Bruce Health Services (GBHS) Board of Directors has appointed Gary Sims as its new President and CEO.
A media release says Sims has over 30 years of healthcare experience and is currently the President & CEO of Blanche River Health in Northeastern Ontario.
In that role, Sims has overseen the amalgamation of two hospitals and is also the North East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) regional lead.
He also oversees IT projects in hospitals.
Sims has been President and CEO of Deep River and District Hospital and St. Joseph's at Fleming which is a 200 bed long-term care home in Peterborough.
Sims started his career as a Registered Nurse, and worked as a Director of clinical programs including Surgery and Women & Child Care.
Sims holds a Masters of Education and is a graduate of the Advanced Health Care Leadership Program at the Rotman School of Business in the University of Toronto.
Board members in Grey Bruce beleive Sims' experience will be beneficial to GBHS as the organization works with area partners towards the formation of an Ontario Health Team later this Fall.
Sims will start in his role for the corporation’s six hospitals and addiction treatment facility mid-November 2019.
Interim President and CEO Jo Flewwelling will continue in her role until Sims’ arrival.
