Deadline Approaching For Input On Goderich Memorial Arena

Goderich | by Fadi Didi

Councillor Trevor Bazinet says public input critical to council's decision on historic arena.

The deadline is fast approaching to have your say on the future of Goderich's Memorial Arena.

The ice was removed from the 70 year-old arena last September, after an engineer's report cited major problems with the underground cooling pipes leading from the ammonia-based ice-plant.

Goderich councillor Trevor Bazinet says the 1-minute online survey will ask whether the town should keep the building standing, demolish it, sell it, or lease the property.

Over 900 people have responded to the brief questionnaire, with Bazinet hoping to reach a thousand before it closes Friday at 4:00 p.m..

Although he says most councillors would like to see the town retain ownership of Memorial Arena, Bazinet tells Country 104.9 News public input will be critical in the final decision.

Final results for the survey are expected in September.
