With some local lighthouses recently put under designation and more soon to be, MP Larry Miller has been reflecting on his involvement in passing the original legislation in the late 2000s.
In late August the federal government designated Enragee Point marking the 100th lighthouse in Canada to be designated under the Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act which Miller had a hand in pushing through parliament.
11 years after the legislation was past Miller comments on reaching 100 designated lighthouses saying,
"Knowing 100 lighthouses have been preserved through this bill makes me feel pretty good," Miller says "it shows that the bill is workable."
Currently there are five lighthouses in Bruce County alone are under the Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act,
-The Flowerpot Island Lighthouse in Tobermory.
-McNab Point, River Front Range and River Rear Range in Southampton.
-Finally the Point Clark National Historic Site of Canada.
Miller believes more will be designated in the future.
