During his 2018 election campaign, Goderich Mayor John Grace pledged to establish an Environmental Action Committee.
Council approved the committee's formation early this year, and Grace is pleased with the results so far.
Grace mentions that the Environmental Action Committee is more broadly based than the old environment committee, which consisted mainly of members of Council.
The Mayor says the recently-formed group has public sector, private sector and interest group representation.
Grace is gratified that individuals came forward to take part in the committee, adding to the people who were recruited to serve.
He believes the Environmental Action Committee can make a real difference, including moving the town away from single-use plastics, and replacing fossil fuelled municipal vehicles with electric ones.
The committee's next meeting is scheduled at Town Hall on September 11th at 2pm.
