Slow Response To Goderich Memorial Arena Survey

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

CAO Larry McCabe says 60% of respondents so far, want to keep the building

The Chief Administrative Officer with the Town of Goderich says response to an on-line survey on the future of Memorial Arena is bringing a slow response so far.

Larry McCabe tells Country 104.9 News that as of August 8th, 378 people had voiced their opinion on whether to keep the venue or demolish it.

The survey had been posted about a month before that date.

McCabe says when the sampling was taken, 60 per-cent of respondents wanted to keep the Memorial Arena building.

The other 30 per-cent favour having the structure torn down.

In the past couple of months, Council has heard ideas that include selling or leasing Memorial to a private-sector operator.

The ice was removed from the 70 year-old arena last September, after an engineer's report cited major problems with the underground cooling pipes leading from the ammonia-based ice-plant.

The survey will remain posted for the next few weeks, and final results are expected next month.
