Harbour Revitalization Project Presented to Saugeen Shores Council

Saugeen Shores | by John Divinski

A mock-up of Cedar Crescent Village features a "Whitefish Grille", a hall, four volleyball courts and a skating rink.

Initial plans have been unveiled for the proposed re-development at Port Elgin Beach.

Donnini sees the plan as a "restoration" of the beach, drawing from its past to present a new look for generations to come.

He says they want to call it the Cedar Crescent Village, remembering the Cedar Crescent Casino.

The restoration will include things such as a full restaurant (The Whitefish Grille); a Convention Hall, a Sunset viewing Tower, kids camps and in the winter, a skating rink. and yes, a train.

Donnini says the train will be electric and will not need a track system to operate.

Project cost is estimated at 5-to-7-million-dollars which will come from private sector funds.

Donnini says they hope to be in operation by next summer which means construction will begin this September.

The town has a survey on-line now where you can express your feelings on the plan and what you would like to see.
