Ontario Amateur Softball Association Under 23 Elimination Tournament

Championship Final

New Hamburg Mustangs 5 Tavistock Hops 4  ( 10 innings )

Ryan Cadwell lofted a single into shallow left field in the 10th inning to drive in the winning run for the Mustangs

New Hamburg's Tyler Randerson was named as the top pitcher in the tournament while teammate Isaiah Whetstone was selected as the tournament MVP

New Hamburg, Tavistock & the Owen Sound Selects will represent Ontario at the Softball Canada Championship Tournament in Saskatoon which begins later this month.

The Shallow Lake Sting qualified for the Under 16 Canadian Fastball Championships in Saskatoon

The Softball Canada U16 event is July 31st-August 4th

The Owen Sound Under 16 Selects went 2 & 2 at the tournament in Grafton and have earned a berth in the Easterns Canadians later this summer at Newfoundland/Labrador. 

Owen Sound won 7-6 against Springbrook, lost to Port Perry 6-3, won against Oshawa 14-1 and then fell to Haldimand 5-0.

Patti Scarrow tripled while Rachel Ward, Kait Bos and Jess McGregor all had doubles for the Royals

Maddy Moore allowed 2 hits & struck out 8 for Desboro

Sarah Monkman and Lisa Snyder had the hits for the Gators.

Saugeen TFC Athletes Selected for Provincial Legions

15 Saugeen Track and Field Club athletes have been selected to represent our local District C Legion at the Ontario Royal Canadian Legion Track and Field Championships being held in Brampton on July 12th and 13th. Athletes needed to medal in multiple events at the District C Legion meet held in Kincardine on June 22nd to even be considered for selection to the team.

The following STFC athletes have been invited to represent District C:


Girls 15 and under:

Michelle Van Stuyvenberg - Discus, Hammer;

Harley Martin – Discus, Javelin, Shot Put;

Avery Oestreicher – High Jump, Long Jump;

Claire Rands - 800m, 1200m;

Grace Wheeler - 1500m Steeplechase, 2000m,

Girls 17 and under:

Billie Martin – Hammer, Shot Put;

Hanna Van Stuyvenberg – Discus, Hammer;

Ana Morariu – 1500m, 3000m;

All athletes competing in Brampton will be striving for a spot on the Ontario team heading to Sydney, Nova Scotia in the first week of August. Only 40 athletes total, across 60 events and 4 age classes, will be selected to the prestigious Ontario team.

Girls Field Lacrosse

Under 19

The Owen Sound Tom Hall’s North Stars lost both games at Orangeville, losing to 17-3 Oakville.

Tara Meikle scored 2 goals and Reese Wolons scoring a single. 

Owen Sound lost 11-10 against the Beaches. 

Reese Wilkins led Tom Halls with 3 goals. 

Kariya Beach and Kennedy Stauffer scored 2 while Tara Meikle, Franny Alfresco and Ryleigh Elliott scoring singles.

The team is next in action Friday July 12 in Halton Hills 

The Owen Sound Hyundai NorthStars went 1 & 1 

Hyundai defeated Newmarket 11-3 before losing 14-3 to Newmarket #1

Next weekend’s action is in Halton Hills.

The European Bakery NorthStars are currently at the top of the U15 standing.

Under 13

Goal scorers were Brooklyn Doyle with 3, Taryn Lee with 2, Ryann Seaman and Laine Nissen with singles.

Owen Sound 4 Kawartha 3

Goal scorers were Edyn Beyer with 2, Brooklyn Doyle and Madison Playter with singles.

Next weekend will see the final games of the regular season played in Georgetown. 

These games will settle the final rankings that will be used to establish the A, B, and C pools for the Provincial Championships in Waterloo in two weeks.

Hannah Davies and Megan Cowan scored singles.

Emma Cooper scored 3 goals while Hannah Davies added a pair. 

Mykah Harris was strong in net in Game 1. 

The team is next in action Sunday, July 14th in Halton Hills.

The Owen Sound Firefighters went 1 & 1 in Orangeville

Firefighter Goals were scored by Rory Jex, Leah Cooper and London Doyle.

Bree Wilkins scored four goals, Leah Cooper 2 goals and Lauren Neil scored the game winner.

The girls play next week-end in Halton Hills before heading into Provincials in two weeks.

Waylon Greig and Anthony Klerks each threw 2 innings, and Calhon Urbshott made his pitching debut

William Matches paced the offense with a 3 hit game in the leadoff spot, while Owen Weir, Colton Cameron and Waylon also had 3 hit games. 

Zak Hamilton, Waylon and Owen chipped in home runs. 

First Shift

The " Toronto Maple Leaf- Canadian Tire First Shift  " program in Owen Sound opens at noon on Monday

The Owen Sound program has room for 45 skaters 

Participants have to be brand new to hockey and 6-10 years old.

For $199 they get outfitted from head to toe with new gear and 6 on ice sessions.
