Goderich Mayor John Grace says some careful consideration will need to be taken on the future of the town's Memorial Arena.
The ice was removed from Memorial last September, after an engineer's report found serious issues with the pipes that carry ammonia-based refrigerant under the arena floor.
Grace says the arena has been the centre of the community for 70 years, and was where townspeople met to discuss the town's future following a EF-3 tornado in August of 2011.
For fifteen years, Goderich has been home to two ice surfaces, following the completion of the Maitland Recreation Centre, on Suncoast Drive.
Grace tells Country 104.9 News the town will need to conduct a market impact study, to understand what the town's long term needs are.
The Mayor says there will be some residents unhappy with the choice made by elected officials, whatever that may be.
A draft document compiled by staff will be brought before Goderich Council shortly, in advance of a public meeting on Memorial Arena's future.
