Barrie city council upholds reprimand against Keenan Aylwin

Barrie | by Ian MacLennan

The integrity commissioner ruled Aylwin violated the city's code of conduct.

Barrie councillor Keenan Aylwin has until tomorrow to remove a Facebook post the integrity commissioner said violated the city's code of conduct.

At a meeting last night,  city council upheld a reprimand against the first-time councillor over a post in March in which he said there were people in positions of power in Canada using racist and white-supremacist rhetoric for political gain,   and he named two Barrie-area Conservative MPs,  said they have been silent on their leader's appearance on the same stage as neo-Nazi sympthizer Faith Goldy, and added they are playing footsies with white supremacists.

The MPs,  Alex Nuttall and John Brassard,  are suing Aylwin for defamation.

Aylwin tells Barrie Today he will remove the Facebook post.
