Junior North Stars Win Home Opener

Owen Sound holds on to defeat Guelph 10-8.

A good result for the Owen Sound Junior North Stars in their home opener.

Brayden Krueger, Hayden Coulter and Joel Coghlin each scored a pair of goals as the North Stars downed the Guelph Regals 10-8 in Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior B action at the Bayshore Community Centre Thursday night.

Coghlin, Coulter and Krueger each scored in the third period to stamp out a rally by Guelph, which tied the game 7-7 on goals by Shane Halliwell and Mitchell Zulian.

Josh Hamill, Brody Caskenette and Brady Stewart also scored for Owen Sound (2-3-1). 

Ethan Keleher and Halliwell tallied twice for Guelph (0-3-1), while Sam MacDonald, Carter McGrath and Josh Fairey added singles.

Kaleb Martin made 38 saves in the win, while Brady Wilson stopped 33 taking the loss. Guelph outshot Owen Sound 46-43 while going 0 for 4 on the power play; the North Stars finished 0 for 3.

The Junior North Stars have two more home games coming up this weekend. On Saturday, Owen Sound hosts the Six Nations Rebels (5-0-0) at the Bayshore at 4 p.m.

Sunday, the Point Edward Pacers (2-4-0) visit for a 2 p.m. matchup at the Bayshore.
