Habitat to Seek Partnerships with Municipalities

Grey Bruce | by Ken Hashizume

The Grey Bruce chapter is reaching out to municipal governments on building affordable housing.

Now that most if not all municipal Councils in Grey Bruce are officially into their new term, one organization is eager to seek partnerships for their projects.

Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce wants to sit down with both lower and upper tier municipalities to see what can be done to meet the demands on affordable housing.

Chair Deb Haswell says Habitat chapters from across Ontario have partnered with other regions to build affordable housing.

She says there are hundreds of families who are on their waiting list for a home.

Haswell says Halton Region is one area that has partnered with Habitat to the tune of $1 Million.

She says that funding was used to build homes for families who were on their waiting lists.

Haswell says they have already reached out to Grey County and are planning to reach out to Bruce County as well.

She says they are gearing towards mostly urban centres and looking to address their Councils on what their chapter is all about.
