Newcomer Investment Tour

Hanover | by Robyn Garvey

Investor Tour shows new Canadians potential business opportunities in the area.

30 potential investors recently paid a very important visit to the region, it was all part of a Saugeen Connects initiative.

The project involved hosting an Investor Tour to immigrants to showcase the potential business opportunities in Minto, Hanover, West Grey, Brockton and Wellington North.

This was a partnership between Saugeen Connects and the Newcomer Centre of Peel.

The potential investors are all foreigners who have relocated to Canada and are eager to plant roots and seek out investment and business opportunities.

During the tour the potential investors met with local business officials and mayors.

The investors also toured vacant storefronts and land as well as visited businesses that are for sale and buildings that are for lease.

Hanover Economic Development Manager April Marshall says the Investor Tour is the first of its kind for the area.

The tour she says allowed the newcomers to get a better sense of rural Ontario while recognizing the possible investment opportunities.

She is confident this outside of the box style strategy will help to grow the local economy.

Mashall adds the potential investors were very impressed with tour and many expressed interest in the area.

The Newcomer Centre of Peel will be completing a survey with the investors in order to obtain feedback.

Marshall says plans are already in the works for the next tour which will be an “Employment Tour” in an effort to attract new workers into the community.

This again will involve a partnership with the Newcomer Centre of Peel to bring immigrants to the area to tour the potential worksites for employment opportunities.

Saugeen Connects is a partnership between the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation and the municipalities of Minto, Hanover, West Grey, Brockton and Wellington North.

The mission is to collaborate and positively impact are economic growth; support youth retention and development; support growth and retention of business; and to integrate efforts to leverage immigrant attraction to the area as residents, workers, entrepreneurs, business owners, operators and investors.
