From Where I Sit

Friday was a big day for Victoria B.C.
It was a big day for Ellesmere Island,  a big day for Happy Valley-Goose Bay Newfoundland.

Heck, it was a big day for Canada.

The Olympic Torch Relay route was released on Friday and it is a celebration of all that is Canadian.
The Torch relay is an an ambitious 106-day undertaking that will begin on Oct. 30, 2009, at Mile Zero of the Trans-Canada Highway in Victoria and stop at such iconic Canadian landmarks as Anne of Green Gables House in Cavendish, P.E.I., and Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo Jump in Alberta.
The torch will pass through every Canadian province and territory, and will be carried by more than 12,000 torch-bearers using everything from their feet to snowmobiles, skis and snowboards.
It will stop in many of our local communities next December.
The torch relay will make its way from Mount Forest to Durham, Hanover, Walkerton, Kincardine, Tiverton, Port Elgin, Southampton and Saugeen First Nation before stopping in Owen Sound on December 28th.
Owen Sound is in fact, a Celebration Community for the 2010 Olympic Torch relay.
Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners is thrilled with the designation since Owen Sound will be one of only 187 communities across Canada to hold a celebration.
Then the following day -- December 29th -- it will make its way through Meaford, Thornbury, Blue Mountain resort, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, the Midland area, Angus and Alliston before stopping in Barrie.
The 45,000 total kilometres covered will be more than any other domestic torch relay in Olympic history. And the catch is... you have a chance to make Olympic History. Canadians can apply to be one of the 2010 torch bearers through the websites of presenting sponsors Coca-Cola,  and RBC.
So what are you waiting for...
The Olympic torch is coming to a town near you, and YOU can be a part of it. From Where I sit....
It's going to be a great celebration of the Olympic Spirit... and a celebration of Canada.

From Where I Sit is on 560 CFOS Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 7:08 am and 5:08 pm
