The election results are in for the Saugeen First Nation.
The new Chief for the next term is Vernon Roote.
Roote’s name may sound familiar.
He was a past President of the Union of Ontario Indians and a former Chief and councillor of the Saugeen First Nation.
There were 539 votes cast for chief, and Roote collected 248 of those.
The next closest was Janet Root with 84 votes.
A new Band Council was also elected.
Lester Anoquot collected the most votes with 224.
Randal Roote was a close second with 216 votes.
Joining them are; Sonya Roote, Ken Roote, Lorne Mandawoub, Spencer Ritchie, Stacey John, LetitiaThompson and Jim Ritchie.
