Emergency Planners in Gravenhurst are watching the weather patterns closely.
The Town’s Emergency Planning Team reports its busiest Spring yet.
They’ve been kept busy preparing for potential local flooding and dealing with the ongoing pandemic.
But while flooding hasn’t happened on the level of other years, Gravenhurst’s Deputy Fire Chief/Community Emergency Planning Coordinator Todd Clapp warns that “no one should relax just yet.”
He says water levels in the Muskoka Watershed are at the high-end of what is considered normal for this time of year.
As a precaution, the Town’s sandbagging supply stock-piles have been relocated to the Public Works facility on Crawford Road, and are available, at no charge, to all Gravenhurst residents who require them.
“So far this Spring, we’ve actually seen a number of strong wind events, and so we’re watching weather patterns closely,” says Clapp.
An approaching “Polar Vortex” in conjunction with these recent wind events means we should all stay prepared, he adds.
As Emergency Preparedness Week continues, Clapp says “stay informed, stay vigilant, and be prepared, not scared”
