Construction upgrading 16 steel beam energy attenuating terminal systems (SBEAT) has been completed on the Highway 400 corridor in the Township of Georgian Bay.
“This project provided modernization to roadside safety infrastructure in keeping with the MTO’s high standards of safety,” says Parry-Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller. “The installation of these devices provided local economic stimulus by supplying jobs for the construction industry and increases driving safety for all road users by meeting modern safety standards.”
The goal of the new terminals is to reduce roadside hazards and mitigate the severity of accidents when they occur. The SBEAT systems technology is amongst the safest roadside infrastructure in the world.
“This upgrade is reflective of our government’s commitment to roadside safety and reconfirms Ontario’s position as a leader in roadside safety in North America,” says Miller. “The Highway 400 corridor in the Township of Georgian Bay sees increased traffic in the summer months. I am very pleased to see this construction take place, keeping Ontarians safe as they enjoy the summer in the Parry Sound-Muskoka region.”
