An old friend burned the Attack in this one.
Michael Dec scored a pair of second period goals and finished with four points against his former club, as the Erie Otters cruised past the Owen Sound Attack 5-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Dylan Edwards also put up four points for Erie (11-17-1-1), which earned a split in the back to back in Owen Sound. Tristen Trevino and Alex Misiak also had goals.
David Bedkowski had the lone marker for the Attack (17-12-0-2).
Erie never trailed in the game. Edwards scored just over six minutes after the opening faceoff to stake the Otters to 1 -0 lead, which they would carry into the second period.
Bedkowski scored at 5:11 of the second, sneaking in off the point after an offensive zone faceoff win and then taking a pass from Nick Sykora before firing a wrist-shot by Charlie Burns to tie it 1-1.
Dec would score at 12:10 to put Erie back in front. And then it was the former Bear again in the final minute of the second. With Erie on a power play, Edwards put a little backhand pass to Dec near the backpost and he quickly fired a shot into the net to make it 3-1.
Four points in this game, two the night prior — Dec put on a show against the team that traded him back on Halloween in a one-for-one forward swap that brought Wesley Royston to Owen Sound. Erie scored seven goals over the pair of games in Owen Sound this weekend, Dec was in on six of them (3-3–6).
Misiak scored 40 seconds into the third period extending Erie’s lead with a short-side shot off the rush, that clanged the post and went in.
Trevino would add another on the power play at 14:08, making it 5-1.
Burns made 32 saves in the win, while Carter George stopped 28 taking the loss. Shots were 33-33. Erie went 2 for 6 on the power play; the Attack were 0 for 3.
