The Roxy Theatre is bringing a tale as old as time to its stage in November.
The Owen Sound Little Theatre is playing Disney’s Beauty and the Beast from Nov. 10 to the 12, 17 to the 19, and 23 to the 26 at 7:30 p.m., with matinee shows on Nov. 12 and 19 at 2 p.m.
Roxy Theatre Executive Director Marcia Cunningham says for the comfort of their patrons, a masked audience performance will be offered on Nov. 25.
Cunningham says the play is directed by Owen Sound Little Theatre veteran Lacey Mooney and features several talented actors.
“Lacey Mooney is a wonderful director and this is her first Owen Sound Little Theatre play that she is directing, however, she has been on stage with the Owen Sound Little Theatre probably dozens of times by now, and also directed last spring’s Roxy Young Company production of Matilda Jr., which sold out all of their shows,” says Cunningham.
The play includes the songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, as well as new songs by Menken and Tim Rice.
The story follows of Belle and the beast who is trapped under a spell and must find love to break the curse.
“It’s a very popular story, and it’s a happy story I think. We thought it would do well, musicals tend to do well at the Owen Sound Little Theatre, and this is a big musical. We are really excited to be bringing it to the stage,” says Cunningham.
Tickets are on sale on the theatre website here, or by calling the box office at 519 371-2833.
