1) Why are you running?I
am running because I enjoy being on council. I like representing my town and hope that my knowledge and experience can help benefit the tax payers.
2) Are there any steps municipalities can take to help ease cost of living concerns?
Steps that municipalities can take to ease cost of living concerns, are to look for new ways to decrease the cost of operating the municipality, and to try to create income to off set the cost of running the town. We try our best when making a budget to keep the town cost as low as possible, this can be challenging when we need to keep our service levels at a standard that the tax payers deserve. Every decision made at the council chamber should be made with this question in mind.
3) What are your ideas for economic development in your municipality?
I supported the decision to hire a economic developer to design, plan and implement strategies between public and private sectors in the community. This employee reports to council on the on going needs of the town. I like that she brings new business and public ideas to help grow our economy in South Bruce Peninsula.
One of my ideas to help with economy in our town was to make it easier for developers to get approvals for their developments and to ensure capacity at our sewage lagoons for future growth. More controlled development we have in our community will help with the rising cost of living.
4) Do you think the municipality has a role to play in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other healthcare workers?
I feel it is important to support in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other health care workers in our municipality.
5) Do you support the approval of a proposed land based Fish Farm in the Wiarton area?
I support the proposed land based Fish Farm in South Bruce Peninsula if they meet all the required approvals to help maintain a proper running fish farm. They will be monitored by MOE who will be making sure they have a proper filtration systems. This will bring jobs to the community.
I will not be in favour if their system is just dumping fish waste into Georgian bay.
6) What are your views on beach maintenance and parking in Sauble Beach?
I have always been in favour of the municipality maintaining the beach. I believe the people and plovers can co exist on our beaches. When the municipality was allowed to maintain the beach we saw more plover landings and survival. Since not being allowed to maintain beach we have not had good results in plover survival or landings.
Paid parking is needed at Sauble Beach it pays 100% of the cost to maintain the beach, example garbage pick up, washroom maintenance, etc… With out paid parking the tax payers would have to absorb this cost.
