Four groups have donated $10,000 cheques for Lamont Sports Park in Port Elgin.
A release from the Illuminating Dreams Fundraising Campaign says, “Just as the summer heat is making the thermometer rise, four new donations are bringing the heat for the Lamont Sports Park Illuminating Dreams Fundraising Campaign.”
They say they received four ‘Home Run’ donations from the following:
Tracy Doll, Royal LePage D.C. Johnston Realty
The Caley Family
The Devils Ladies’ fastball team
Meridian Credit Union
While three of the donations were announced at the park’s June 4th Open House, all four donors recently made time to officially hand over cheques to the fundraising committee.
Vice Deputy Mayor and Campaign Co-Chair Mike Myatt says in a statement, “This project is the result of multiple generations getting together to help,” adding, “Jim Caley grew up right next to the land where the park is located, while Tracy Doll brought her daughter to the cheque ceremony. We know that facilities like the Lamont Sports Park are essential to building and maintaining healthy communities for years to come.”
The $10,000 entitles each donor to a banner at the park for five years, as well as a mention on the park’s Lifetime Donation Board.
The fundraising campaign aims to raise money for the construction of the Lamont Sports Park Phase 2. This includes two youth baseball diamonds, and an accessible playground. The new construction will add to the four baseball diamonds built in Phase 1.
