A $50,000 federal grant has been received by the Hanley Institute in Flesherton.
A notice from Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Alex Ruff says, the grant came from the Department of Canadian Heritage, through the Legacy Fund Component of the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage Program.
The institute is a registered charity that develops and implements ways of extending opportunities and removing barriers for youth in Grey County.
The funds will go towards the institute’s work on the Flesherton Community Theatre for the Performing Arts project.
The Legacy Fund provides funding for community-initiated capital projects which restore, renovate, or transform an existing building or exterior space for community use. Eligible capital projects are those which celebrate their 100th anniversary or greater of a significant local historical event or personality.
Ruff’s office says in supporting the institute, the legacy fund is enabling community cultural activities and addressing the challenges of renovating to modern standards in a 145-year-old historical church setting.
Ruff says, “arts and heritage are important aspects of culture in rural communities. I am very pleased that the Hanley Institute has been awarded this funding for the Flesherton Community Theatre for the Performing Arts.”
