The Town of South Bruce Peninsula has completed its four-year pledge investment of $100,000 for youth mental services in the area.
The four-year pledge gave $25,000 each year, as the demand on mental health resources has increased significantly throughout the pandemic, according to Executive Director of Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation April Patry.
“The timing of the Town of South Bruce Peninsula’s support could not have come at a better time,” Patry adds.
Director of Mental Health for Grey Bruce Health Services Naomi Vodden says they are seeing more young people in local communities who are struggling with mental health issues, and options for inpatient care for residents is extremely limited in the area.
Vodden says the funds provided by the town will be used for pediatric mental health services.
“This means young people who are vulnerable can stay close to home, rather than travelling long distances for care. This donation is extremely helpful for GBHS, and makes a world of difference to local families,” says Vodden.
Mayor Janice Jackson says the town is committed to assisting in expanded healthcare services for the community.
“We recognize the impact Covid has had on the mental health of our youth; we are happy that our contribution has come at a time where it can really make a difference,” says Jackson.
