Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “,….. proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body.

It’s a big day in football in these parts as the Bluewater Football Championship Game is today.
The all-Owen Sound matchup will be contested at Victoria Park as the undefeated St Mary’s Mustangs host the Owen Sound District Wolves.
The Mustangs went 3 & 0 in the regular season but needed a late single from Tanner Hamill to eliminate Grey Highlands in the semifinal.
The Wolves only loss was to St Mary’s and they gained the berth in the Championship by defeating the Saugeen District Royals 20-13.
It’s a fairly big weekend in the Ontario Hockey League for the Owen Sound Attack as they visit Kitchener tonight and host Guelph tomorrow.
The Attack are coming off an extremely thorough 4-1 win over the Rangers in a game that Owen Sound controlled for the most part.
The suggestion has been made that the win on Saturday marked the Attack turning a corner, which might be true, and I hope that’s true- I like a lot of what I’ve seen early this year.
But in this unique OHL season, turning any corner means running into a rougher neighbourhood.
Usually by Halloween each year, one team has dug a hole too deep to recover from or is hopelessly out of it.
At this point of this season, in the 10 team Western Conference, Owen Sound is contending for a Top 4 position…… yet just barely in a playoff spot as we hit mid-November.
Have a great weekend.
