The Hockey Canada Community Champion program, presented by Scotiabank highlights Canadians that are making a positive impact on the hockey community,
Garrett McFadden from Kincardine is being honoured as the second Champion of the season.
Following the loss of a close family friend, Garrett founded McFadden’s Movement in 2016 while playing for the Guelph Storm to change, help and develop mental health among athletes starting at the grassroots level.
He has spoken to a number of minor hockey organizations and schools groups, and has continued to be an advocate for mental health since going to play for the Acadian Axemen.
McFadden and the Movement have also donated a total of $78,200 to mental health resources in just five years, including back-to-back $20,000 donations in 2018 & 2019, a $10,000 donation in 2020, and a $20,000 donation in 2021
With the Guelph Storm, McFadden twice won the OHL’s Dan Snyder Humanitarian of the Year Award (2017, 2018)
As a Hockey Canada Champion, Garrett will be featured in a video on the Hockey Canada website and will receive his own Hockey Canada jersey and a Scotiabank prize package.
