GTA Classic
Seventeen Kilian Academy athletes will be representing Grey-Bruce County in the upcoming 2021 GTA Classic in Toronto.
The GTA Classic, one of Canada’s largest annual Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournaments, will be held on the 19th of September 2021 in the Markham Pan Am Centre, Toronto, ON. Local Owen Sound martial arts academy, Kilian Academy, will be representing Grey-Bruce County at the Classic.
Program Director, Abrie Kilian, stated that the academy athletes are primed, ready and waited the whole year for the opportunity to test themselves against the best in Canada. “Our athletes have worked hard in the past three months in preparation for the Classic. Our athletes’ fitness and conditioning preparation is looking pearless. Each athletes’ unique games plan and psychological preparation has been honed to precision.”
“Our competing athletes range from 14 to 46 years of age, with one female athlete making her debut at the Classic.” Kilian added. “For most of our athletes, this tournament will their debut in competing at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with a few veterans returning to the fold.”
Kilian is of the opinion that this tournament and the participation of local Grey-Bruce athletes is a breath of fresh air and a welcoming break from the pandemic. Kilian adds that this tournament grants the residents of Grey-Bruce the opportunity to rally support for its local athletes. “In a time when hope is scarce, I believe that these athletes can inspire our small community to draw together, irrespective of our political or health differences. I allowed our athletes to inspire me and I am happy to state that I am inspired.”
With Seventeen adult athletes competing, Kilian Academy constitutes one the largest teams at this prestigious tournament. “We may be a small community, but our athletes are committed and disciplined to reach for gold.”
Kilian Academy came into prominence earlier this year, after drawing the attention of the Canadian Mental Health Association for its unique coaching modality in which the academy attended to mental health through the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. During the Sun-Times annual the best-of-the-best contest, Kilian Academy was also voted as one of Grey-Bruce County’s top alternative fitness facilities, adding to its growing prestige within Owen Sound and Grey Bruce County.
Kilian Academy Competitors represent the following towns within Grey-Bruce County:-
