The Town of Gravenhurst has some safety tips for people who are traveling here for the August long weekend.
Planning a barbecue?
· Be sure all gas connections are tight and not leaking
· Do not leave an appliance unattended while cooking
· Do not wear baggy or loose-fitting clothing (sleeves) while cooking
· Provide a 3 ft. “Safe Zone” around the barbecue where kids do not enter
Planning a boat ride?
· When fueling, shut off all engines and electrical/power supplies
· Extinguish any open flames
· Obey the “DO NOT SMOKE” signage
· Run the engine compartment blower for at least four minutes immediately before starting the engine to eliminate any excessive vapors.
Planning a motor home/camper road trip?
· Give the vehicle and all its’ accessories such as smoke and carbon monoxide alarm a complete inspection and testing
· If transporting propane cylinders, be sure they are secured in the upright position to prevent tipping over
· Check all chimneys/ventilation systems if so equipped, making sure there are no blockages such as leaves, nests or other debris.
· Check, clean and test your smoke and CO alarms. Replace the batteries if equipped and/or replace the devices if 10 years of age.
Whatever your plans are, be careful, enjoy the weekend and come home safe!
