Eight new Covid cases and four recoveries were reported by the Grey Bruce Health Unit on Friday.
According to Public Health, three people from Owen Sound, two from The Blue Mountains, and residents of Saugeen Shores, Hanover and Arran-Elderslie tested positive.
There are now 78 active known cases in the region. One person is currently hospitalized locally, while the health unit says one Grey Bruce resident is receiving care outside of the region as well.
Meantime, the Grey Bruce Health Unit says it’s working with the Bluewater District School Board to address a suspected Covid outbreak associated with Beaver Valley Community School in Thornbury. Two cases are linked to the school.
“A suspect outbreak identifies interim evidence of transmission from person to person. Status will be determined pending additional testing. No bus routes are involved with this suspect outbreak,” a health unit release explains.
Public Health says it’s also working with the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board about a confirmed case associated with Notre Dame Catholic School in Owen Sound.
” Any cohorts that have been identified as contacts to the case have been excluded from school at this time. Those not contacted by Public Health need not take any additional steps including asymptomatic testing,” a Grey Bruce Health unit statement says.
On vaccination progress in Grey Bruce: 36,626 doses have been administered to date.
Over the course of the pandemic, four Grey Bruce residents have died from the virus.
The testing and case counts data released by the health unit on Friday is reflective of a 24-hour period prior to 11:59 p.m. Thursday.
