The Saugeen Shores Community Improvement Plan is getting a makeover to now include an Economic Development Community Improvement Plan.
The draft proposal was presented at the latest Committee of the Whole meeting, March 22nd.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau says this project will allow programs such as Spruce the Bruce to happen.
Normally a municipality cannot give money directly to business whereas a CIP program allows that to happen.
The money helps businesses to improve their facades, build patios and to make the downtown cores look and function better.
Then there’s the Economic Development CIP which helps incentivize affordable housing and entice businesses to come to the community.
Mayor Charbonneau says the plans will not be combined to cover Port Elgin and Southampton since he believes down the road the two communities may have different needs.
A final draft of the two CIP’s will come to a future meeting of council.
