Seven new Covid cases and one recovery were reported by the Grey Bruce Health Unit on Friday.
According to Public Health, three people from Owen Sound, two from Hanover, and residents of Chatsworth and South Bruce Peninsula tested positive.
The Health Unit also reported the region’s fourth Covid related death. Public Health says a male in his 70s who had been in isolation in hospital died today.
“I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the gentleman who passed away. Unfortunately, the news of this death is a reminder of the need for everyone to take this virus very seriously. It requires our collective actions to stem the spread of this virus. Please, stay at home and stay safe,” says Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra in a statement.
There are now 54 active known cases in the region. Three people are currently hospitalized.
On vaccination progress: 22,083 doses have been administered in the region to date.
The Grey Bruce Health Services hospital in Owen Sound remains in outbreak status. Public Health says there are no outbreaks at any long-term care or retirement homes, schools or childcare centres in the area.
The testing and case counts data released by the health unit on Friday is reflective of a 24-hour period prior to 11:59 p.m. Thursday.
The Ontario government announced changes for some regions in the province’s re-opening framework on Friday, moving Hamilton to the grey-lockdown zone and the Eastern Ontario Health Unit to red. Grey Bruce remains in the green zone.
