Today we'll catch up on a couple of congratulatory notes.
First, the Sacred Heart Crusaders from Walkerton captured the OFSAA " A-AA " Boys Hockey Championship last week, winning in dramatic fashion in a shootout over Iona in the Championship Game at Kincardine.
Ironically, the only other Bluewater School to ever capture the OFSAA Boys Hockey title was Kincardine in 2012.
Meanwhile, Saturday afternoon at Barrie, the Owen Sound Leeder & Associate Attack won the OMHA Atom Championship defeating the Barrie Junior Colts to win the series in 4 games.
Leeder & Associates will now compete at the OHF Championship April 12th-14th in Kapuskasing.
And while they didn't go all the way, the Harold Sutherland Construction Peewee Attack still competed hard before losing the OMHA Final to Quinte West.
Watching the Crusaders crusade to the OFSAA Championship, I was reminded of the 1971 OFSAA event at Copper Cliff where the Midland Secondary Marauders competed.
Almost 50 years later, people still talk about the team and the event.
And with 2 Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group teams in the OMHA Final this year, I was reminded of 1979 when both the Midland Bantams & Midgets were in the OMHA Finals.
People still talk about those series, now 40 years later.
So I think it's fair to expect those connected to Sacred Heart, Walkerton & the Crusaders along with those who watched the Junior Attack Atoms & Peewees will be talking about these recent hockey events in 2059 & beyond.
