Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
There are just 6 teams remaining in the Canadian Football League with 2 playoff games set for Sunday.
In the " Eastern " Semifinal at Hamilton, the Tiger Cats will host the BC Lions.
Then in a truly " Western " Semifinal, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are in Saskatchewan to face the Roughriders.
The winner of BC-Hamilton advances to meet Ottawa
The winner of Winnipeg-Saskatchewan advances to take on Calgary
And by November 25th, we'll have a Grey Cup Champion.
Meanwhile, much closer to home, there's a significant football game set for late Friday afternoon at the University of Guelph.
The Bluewater Champion St Mary's Mustangs will be in against the St. James Lions of Guelph in the CWOSSA Quarterfinal.
The Mustangs are beaming with their local title, accomplishing the feat with a young squad scoring a narrow 6-3 win over their city rivals the Owen Sound Wolves.
But more than bragging rights, the Mustangs believe that with close to 50 eligible returning players for next year, they're in position to grow their program significantly.
Of course, in the short term, there's a massive challenge in front of the Mustangs posed by the St James squad.
The St Mary's staff fully understands that the game Friday at Guelph will be faster than what they've seen this Fall and far more physically taxing than what they've encountered over the course of their Bluewater season.
But that too is part of growing the football program at St Mary's, knowing that even in a Championship season, there's a bigger confrontation at the CWOSSA level.
Good Luck to the Mustangs.
