Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
It's nice to head into Thanksgiving Weekend with both a sunburn & a wind burn.
Yesterday at the Kiwanis Complex in Owen Sound, the 2018 Bluewater East Elementary Cross Country Meet was staged.
By my count, and my math is usually accurate, there were 997 competitors in 8 divisions, split equally 4 apiece between girls & boys and featuring young athletes from Grade 1 to Grade 8.
Again by my count, close to a dozen schools had a runner finish in the Top 6 in a category during the course of the day.
Of course, the names of some of these elementary school runners were very familiar having just been to the Georgian Bay Coyotes Race only 5 days previously in Meaford.
Three Kulakowskys; Ella Freja & Kaj won their races.
Plus Liam Law, Emmett Leary and Taryn Lee had tasted victory in the Coyote Races.
The exceptions came in the Grade 7 & 8 Division where Grace Boyce from Macphail Memorial won the Girls race & Dante Hannivan from Highpoint was the Boys Champion.
In 5 days time, there's another big meet, the annual Bluewater West Meet at Saugeen Bluffs near Paisley.
And then on Saturday October 27th, the Georgian Bay Coyotes will be the host club for the Ontario Minor Championships.
Have a great Thanksgiving.
I'm Fred Wallace
