Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
The Major League Baseball season concludes over the next 3 weekends.
At mid season, it looked like only Cleveland would be home free as a divisional champion, but some strong performances in a number of centres and a fall-off in some others have reduced 7 tight races down to just 4; American League West, National League Central & National West...plus there's a derby for the National League Wild Card spots.
And while baseball is in the home stretch, fastball in Ontario, more-or-less, concludes this weekend with the Ontario Challenge Cup at Innerkip.
The Durham Dodgers & the Dundalk Smoke are among the 12 teams competing this weekend.
Both the Dodgers & Smoke play their first Challenge Cup games tomorrow morning at 9 am; Durham meets either Innerkip or Alvinston while the Smoke will take on either Shakespeare or Kitchener.
The eventual champion this weekend will earn a berth in the 2019 ISC Men's Championship Tournament at Denmark, Wisconsin next year.
The Dodgers are coming off a trip to the final in the Bluewater Championship Tournament at Chepstow where they lost 6-1 to the Port Elgin Blue Devils in the Final.
It's been a good season for fastball at the OASA plus various levels of Ladies & Men's play and there will be a large segment of participants happy for a break.
But 2019 is only a few innings away, Durham & Dundalk hoping to be at the ISC Worlds and the Canadian Midget Championship due to be staged in Owen Sound.
Have a great weekend.
I'm Fred Wallace
