Is it possible to be too excited about something that won't happen until a year from now ?
I think it is.
The Softball Canada Under 19, or Midget, Championships just concluded in Napanee yesterday.
The 2019 National Championship Tournament will be in Owen Sound next year August 6th to 11th.
I'm excited because it's a National Championship and the various hosting committees in Owen Sound have all conducted terrific Canadian Championship tournaments dating back to 2002 in almost every category; Women's, Senior Men's, Junior Men's, Bantam and in 2019 Midget.
I'm excited because the best of those Owen Sound based tournaments was the 2016 Canadian Bantam Championship where 7 of the 8 teams entered had legitimate shots at the title very late in the week. The players from that event are now 3 years older.... and coming right back to Duncan McLellan as Midgets.
And I'm excited because two or three weeks ago, the Ontario Midget Championships were hosted in Owen Sound.
The Shallow Lake Sting won the 2018 OASA Midget Tournament, but how much better were they than Chepstow ?
Or Caledonia-Haldimand ?
Or Tavistock ?
Or Belmore ?
Or Napanee ?
And that's just Ontario.....
Yes, a lot of things can happen to ballplayers, teenage ballplayers, over the course of the year, but I don't think I'm out of sequence being excited for the 2019 Softball Canada Under 19 Championship Tournament at Duncan McLellan Park.
