Bears Forfeit, Weber Holds Record
Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Allenford is hosting the Grey Bruce Ladies Fastball League Playoff games tonight.
At 7 pm, the Undefeated Game will be stage with the Allenford Gators going against the Port Elgin Diamond Devils.
Both the Gators & Devils are 2 & 0 in the double knockout playdown and the winner tonight will advance to the Championship Game next Thursday night, also in Allenford.
The Desboro Royals have been awarded the elimination game verdict over the Bad News Bears by forfeit as the Bears cannot field a team tonight.
So, the Royals advance to play again on Tuesday at Desboro...and the Bears, without competing, are eliminated.
Still with fastball, it's Day 2 of the Softball Canada Under 14 Championship Tournament in Stouffville.
The Shallow Lake-Owen Sound Selects who went 1 & 1 on the opening day of play will play 3 times today facing Simcoe, Newfoundland & Saskatoon before calling it a day.
Finally, moving from fastball to fishing, the leader in the Chantry Chinook Derby in the Trout Division is Mike Weber from Waterloo at 26.84 pounds.
I asked derby reporter Gary Byers if that weight was a derby record.
A quick check by Byers indicates that since the Lake Huron Fishing Club began keeping records in 2003, the Weber catch this year is the largest Lake Trout ever caught.
Having said that, Gary Byers notes that earlier this year at Fish Kincardine, Brady MacDonald landed a 29.04 pound Lake Trout which is more than 2 pounds heavier than the Chantry leader.
There's still a few days remaining in the 35th annual Chantry Chinook Classic to try and make history.
