Loooong Weekend

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

The looooonnnngggg holiday weekend is here !!

First of all, I want to mention that Owen Sound Grey Motors United will be at home tonight in a Kitchener & District Soccer League play.

Grey Motors will host Kitchener Serbia tonight at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex at 8:30 pm.

Owen Sound is coming off a 2-0 shutout victory over Guelph last weekend which upped their record to 3 & 6 and ended a string of very tight one goal losses.

That's tonight.

Meanwhile, tomorrow night is the BIGGEST night of the race season at Hanover Raceway as the annual Dream of Glory Final will be staged.

The BIGGEST Night features the BIGGEST race of the season which is the " Dream of Glory " Final, an annual event dating back to 2002 When " Abbey Road C " for Keith Jones took the title.

The most prolific pairing in the history of the Dream of Glory are driver Steve Byron and trainer John Bax.

Byron has been the winning driver 4 times in the event while the winning horse has been trained by Bax 3 times, most recently in 2015 when Bax trained and Byron drove " Hemi Seelster " to the win.

Heading into tomorrow night you've got to think the Byron-Bax combination is a good bet.

In the two Elimination races last week, Steve Byron won both, winning with " Delcrest Holiday " first and then followed with " Sicario " for the win......not coincidentally both winners are trained by........John Bax.

There's a lot of activities planned for Hanover Raceway tomorrow night including their fabulous Fireworks display, but the major fireworks likely will take place on the track in the 2018 Dream of Glory Final.

I'm Fred Wallace
