Draft Day

By Fred Wallace

Hi this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

And the weekend is upon us.....

In Dallas, the National Hockey League Entry Draft begins tonight and runs through Saturday.

There won't be a heavy contingent of Owen Sound Attack players selected like last year when a half dozen were chosen, but the 2 most prominent names might go relatively early.

Unlike Nick Suzuki a year ago, I don't anticipate Sean Durzi or Aidan Dudas will go in the 1st round, but I also don't anticipate they'll be among the late day stragglers come tomorrow.

Durzi & Dudas represent an alteration in the mindset of NHL teams. Not that long ago, for a variety of factors, mostly size, neither would have been considered. Now the NHL game and the scouting valuations have changed, making Durzi ^ Dudas more appealing than even 4 years ago.

We'll also be watching for Owen Sound native Connor Roberts and Collingwood's Allan McShane at the NHL Draft.

The Draft isn't the only activity, hockey or otherwise, of note this weekend in our region.

The Chris Neil Barbeque Dinner is tomorrow in Flesherton.

The Tara Fastball Tournament begins tonight and runs through the weekend.

And the Owen Sound Senior NorthStars have two massive games this weekend in lacrosse hosting Oakville Saturday night and then heading to Six Nations on Sunday

Have a great weekend.

I'm Fred Wallace
