Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
This is a big week for lacrosse, both indoors and outdoors.
On the far horizon, that is this weekend, the annual Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse Father's Day Weekend Heritage Tournament will be conducted with 5 age divisions of players competing from all over Ontario.
The tournament which began in the late 1980's has been a fixture on the Owen Sound and regional sporting calendar for 3 decades.
It's significant on a variety of levels for the sport and community, but most significant on the floor. Just watch the reaction of the winning team at the end of any Championship Game.
Then multiply that emotion many times over should an Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse entry take a title. It hasn't happened a lot, which is a testament to the depth of the teams competing at every level, but when it does, it's terrific.
Play starts Friday at various venues in our area and continues through the weekend leading to the Championship Games in each division which will be staged Sunday at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre which is fitting....BIG games in a BIG Venue.
But that's for the weekend, tomorrow there's a notable lacrosse event outdoors. We'll talk about that tomorrow.
I'm Fred Wallace
