Collingwood Stages Successful OFSAA Hockey Championship

With the venues in Owen Sound and area, a Bluewater school can certainly consider hosting a similar event.

Length:

Unfortunately, I can't get to everything, no matter how much I want to.

One of the recent events I wanted to witness up close rather than from one county away was the OFSAA " A-AA " Boys Hockey Championship Tournament.

The tournament was staged in late March and hosted by Jean Vanier Catholic School of Collingwood.

The tournament, from the outside, ran with precision leading to Holy Trinity taking the title with a convincing 7-3 win over King City.

For the host school, It was a successful week, as Jean Vanier made it to the Final 4 and captured the Bronze medal with a 2-1 win over Leaside.

While the Championship Games and a quarter of the Pool games were conducted at the storied Eddie Bush Arena in Collingwood, the size of the tournament, 20 teams, meant that games were also staged at Collingwood central, the Beaver Valley Community centre in Thornbury plus the Stayner Memorial Arena.

Naturally, I got thinking what of Owen Sound or Bluewater at large?

Aside from Owen Sound District, the other secondary schools in our region are " A " or " AA " and with the Harry Lumley-Bayshore and the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre having 3 ice pads in a tight radius, plus Shallow Lake being 20 minutes away, I'm fairly certain a Bluewater school could host an OFSAA Hockey Championship someday in Owen Sound as successfully as Collingwood held the 2018 Championship Tournament.
