Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
It's an exciting time of the local sporting year both from a climatic standpoint and from a launching pad standpoint.
Take your pick in hockey circles from Minor Hockey to the PJHL to the WOAA Senior League to the Ontario Hockey League, there's a big game or big playoff game almost every night.
Plus, CWOSSA Championships in multiple sports at the high school level means that OFSAA Championships are just around the corner.
And also around that corner is the start of the Lacrosse season at virtually every level.
To that end, both the Owen Sound Junior NorthStars and the Owen Sound Senior NorthStars have released their schedules.
The Junior B NorthStars commence their season at " home ", at the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre on Sunday April 22nd when they host the Hamilton Bengals.
It bears noting that 3 of the first 4 Junior NorthStars games are at home, but they don't move into the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre until their 5th game, May 3rd against Orangeville.
By comparison, the Senior NorthStars don't have home floor at the Bayshore until Friday May 25th when they host the Kitchener Velocity.
As often is the case, the Senior Stars will open on the road beginning May 6th at Oakville, followed by a doubleheader weekend May 12th & 13th at Ennismore.
In fairness, lacrosse is on the far horizon, but with hockey teams being eliminated on a week to week basis and Bluewater Athletics prepping for the Spring season, the opening faceoff for OLA Junior & Senior teams might be closer than they appear.
