Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
In spite of new fangled and sometimes confusing formats, the Canadian Women's Curling Champions and the Ontario Men's Champions have been crowned.
At the Scotties Tournament of Hearts at Penticton, BC, Jennifer Jones of Manitoba won her 6th national title beating Wild Card skip Kerri Einarson 8-6 in the final.
The Wild Card skip....like I said, curling has undergone significant format alterations.
Regardless, Jones will represent Canada at North Bay next month at the Women's World Curling Championship.
Meanwhile at little south of North Bay on Highway 11, Huntsville was the site for the Ontario Recharge with Milk Men's Tankard.
In the Championship Game, the John Epping rink defeated defending champion Glenn Howard 5-1
Everyone is claiming Epping who's a Peterborough native but in the vagabond world of curling, he plays out of the Leaside club.
From our region, originally, Codey Maus of Highland Country took the long road to the semifinal before losing to Epping
One other curling note today;
There will be a ‘Send Off Party ' for Al Hutchinson and his curling rink who will be representing Ontario at the Canadian Masters Championships in Surrey, BC. in early April.
The goal of the function is to raise money to provide financial assistance to the rink who are responsible for most of the costs for their accommodation, travel and meals.
The Party will be held at the Blue Water Curling Club in Owen Sound Saturday starting after 4 pm.
