Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
It was going to be cut & dried today, a simple tee up of the Owen Sound Attack Ontario Hockey League game tonight when they host the Niagara IceDogs.
The path I was going to travel was to do an interesting comparison of a sequence that unfolded at almost exactly the same time over 2 calendar years.
In mid-November 2016, the Attack went on the road and won at Windsor, won at Flint and then lost at Saginaw.
In the post game, a perplexed Ryan McGill wasn't sure if he was coaching a squad that had won 2 out of 3 on the road OR a team that had won 2 of its last 6 games.
....A year goes by and it's mid-November 2017 and the Attack go on the road, and again they win at Windsor & Flint but lose at Saginaw.
So where are we ?
Some of you may be thinking, ' aha, a 15 game win streak, just like last year, is right around the corner ! '
Me ? I certainly wouldn't bet on a 15 gamer. I'd like to see it.....but I don't.
As I said last week, the Attack have a number of floating and festering issues on the season, almost a half dozen in number and yes, that includes goaltending.
And yesterday's departure of netminder Zack Bowman which triggered the return of goalie Riley Daniels, in my mind, doesn't automatically rectify the overall team scenario.
Instead, it is a complication that means the Attack path, like the path I thought I would take for today's segments, has a significant detour.
Attack & IceDogs tonight at 7.
