Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
The local curling season takes a big step forward tonight with the opening night of the BrokerLink Grey-Bruce Major Curling League.
The Blue Water Club is Owen Sound will host 4 matches in the 8 team loop tonight at at 9 pm.
Defending Champion Al Hutchinson will meet Mike Hamer while the other opening night matches have Shawn Smailes against Don Bartley, Wade Walsh facing Craig Milburn and Steve Gregg's rink taking on Joe Rettinger.
The league will play a true round robin over 7 Wednesdays, then split into 2 tiers, eventually leading to a Championship Day on January 21st.
The Grey Bruce League has had more teams in previous years, but the amalgamation of players could make this 8 team loop as competitive as ever.
On another curling note as we hit the first day of November, the annual Port Elgin Super Spiel is set for November 17th-19th at the Port Elgin Curling Club.
Sixteen rinks have already confirmed their entry and if the field gets bumped to 24, the purse money for 2017 will be $ 18,000.
Welcome to November and the launch of competitive curling in Grey-Bruce and at SuperSpiel
I'm Fred Wallace
