Could Bluewater Teams Be Promotional Leaders ?
Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Just before I departed for the Maritimes, there was a unique event in Chesley- " Baseball Day ".
Beginning at 8:30 am on a Saturday morning with the T-Ballers and running through the entire day with a finale- a Bluewater Fastball game between the Elmwood Smoke and Owen Sound Junior Selects, Chesley had baseball, softball, slo-pitch and fastball at every level.
What a great community event.
What a great showcase for ball.
And what a great initiative to grow the game from grassroots up to adults.
And it also struck me, why just Chesley ?
There are 8 teams in the Bluewater Fastball League.
Wouldn't it be neat if one Saturday per Summer, the Bluewater League teams staged a similar event to Chesley's on their home diamonds ?
I understand ball in Port Elgin is bursting at the seams, they're pursuing additional diamonds as we speak, so the Blue Devils and Lady Diamond Devils could be leaders in that community with a day at Lakeview Park.
Owen Sound's Duncan McLellan Park, the Saugeen Reserve, Durham, Bluewater Park in Wiarton, Tara and of course Chepstow which hosts the annual Year-End Bluewater Championships; all those organizations and communities are capable of hosting a big day, possibly rotating on a year to year basis.
Baseball Day in Chesley conceivably could be easily partnered by 3 more one-day ball events all within the confines of the Bluewater Fastball League.
