Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "

The 25th annual Crime Stoppers of Grey-Bruce Golf Tournament was a smashing success, raising a record $ 25,000 at Southampton Golf & Country.

With it being a special day, there were 3 special guests this year; Toronto Maple Leaf alumni Wendel Clark, Bill Derlago and Tom Fergus.

The combination of Clark-Derlago & Fergus are certainly familiar but in the sometimes small world of hockey the connections can sometimes be eerie...

Wendel Clark was the Leafs 1st round draft pick, # 1 overall, in 1985.

His NHL debut was October 11th at Boston against the Bruins.

His center for his debut was Billy Derlago.

Clark related that Derlago set up twice for glorious chances, but Wendel botched them both.

.........after the game, Bill Derlago was dealt to Boston......for Tom Fergus.

Thirty two years later, Clark, Derlago & Fergus stood in a tent at Southampton Golf & Country Club and related the story with great zest.

The NHL, the great buildings, the difficult opponents, Harold Ballard and more....I could have listened for another hour, it was that entertaining.

But the 25th anniversary Golf Tournament is behind Crime Stoppers now and the ongoing quest to keep our communities safe continues and plans are in motion certainly for the 26th annual tournament June 7th, 2018

I'm Fred Wallace
