Jays Look To Post All Star Break
Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The primary topic of conversation for baseball fans in our region has not been centered on the All Star Game tonight at Miami but rather on the fortunes of the Toronto Blue Jays.
The term most commonly used in these discussions is " turnaround ", as in, ' can the Blue Jays turn their season around ? '
No way. You're dreaming if you think they will.
First of all, starting the year 1 & 9 put them in a hole that they've only slightly recovered from, sitting 6 games under .500 as the theoretical midway point of the season.
Of late, they've won 4 of their last 10, but some of the losses have featured defeats of 15-1, 12-2 & 19-1. Those scores don't indicate a turnaround on the horizon.
And on the horizon is a post All Star Break 10 game road swing through Detroit, Boston and Cleveland; two of which are division leaders at the moment.
So, while there is faint hope in some quarters that Toronto is just 5 games back of a Wild Card spot in the American League, I personally don't see the much discussed " turnaround " unfolding for the Blue Jays.
