National Sports Highlighted This Weekend
Hi this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Happy Canada Day Weekend.
As the country celebrates it's sesquicentennial there's no shortage of activities and events.
In Owen Sound tonight, the Senior NorthStars host the Brooklin Merchants in Ontario Lacrosse action.
Lacrosse has been played for centuries in the country and has enjoyed a lengthy and eventful history in Owen Sound at every level, especially at Senior where Owen Sound has been National Champions in 3 different decades.
Game time tonight is 8:30 pm at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
Lacrosse IS Canada's National Summer sport.
However, there are those who suggest that every Canadian village, town and city has a backstop, fastball should also be recognized as our national sport.
We can debate that on another day.
I will say, Owen Sound will be alive with 11 Midget teams this weekend competing for the right to advance to the National Midget Championships later this summer at Prince Edward Island.
Locally, Shallow Lake, Tara and Chepstow all have entries competing at Duncan McLellan Park with play starting this afternoon and running through Sunday.
Lacrosse, Fastball, Auto Racing, Harness Racing & Fireworks.
Happy Canada Day Weekend
