Jill Dunlop Signs Open Letter In Support Of Patrick Brown

Regional | by Ken Hashizume

Simcoe North candidate says it's wrong to report allegations to the media and not to the police.

One of the women who signed an open letter in support of Patrick Brown is Jill Dunlop.

Dunlop is the PC candidate in Simcoe North.

She is one of over 50 women calling themselves The Women in Simcoe County who are defending the former PC leader over allegations of sexual misconduct.

Brown stepped down as party leader last month.

Dunlop tells Bayshore Broadcasting News she applauds the women who helped put the letter together.

She says there have been other women who also want add their name to the letter.

Dunlop says she and her mother -- Severn Township Councillor Jane Dunlop -- both signed the letter.

She says it was passed around during her charity curling bonspiel over the weekend, and across Barrie and Simcoe County.

In addition to defending Brown, the letter questions the validity of the allegations made by two women that were first reported by CTV News.

Dunlop says she and those who signed the letter support victims of sexual violence.

But she says it is wrong when allegations are reported to the media and not to the police.

The letter went on to say Brown is a champion of women's issues.

It suggests the #metoo movement may have gone too far and destroying a man's career, life, and reputation for no reason crosses the line.
