Derby School Sold

Kilsyth | by Kevin Bernard

Bluewater School Board approved the sale to Barry's Construction.

Derby Public school at Kilsyth has been sold.

The Bluewater Board approved the sale to Barry's Construction for just over 111 thousand dollars plus HST.

At the same time, Barry Krusselbrink has bought a nearby parking lot from Georgian Bluffs for 16 thousand dollars.

Krusselbrink tells Bayshore Broadcasting News once the deal closes he will take a good look at the condition of the building.

He plans to either renovate and put apartments in the old school, or if it can't be salvaged he would demolish the school and perhaps put up some single detached homes on the land.

It is the latest in a series of purchases by the builder that involve old school properties.

Barry's Construction bought up Strathcona school last year and plans to get a building permit later this year for up to 40 apartments in the Owen Sound location.

And the old school house in Chatsworth at the junction of highways 6 and 10, has been converted to 14 apartments.

All except perhaps one have been rented and are occupied now.

Those range in price from 850 to 12 hundred dollars a month including heat.
